Water Security. Sustainable Infrastructure. Local Enterprise.
Friendly Water for the World partners with communities in Kenya to build locally owned systems that strengthen water security, hygiene, infrastructure, and economic opportunity.

Everything Depends on Water
Reliable access to water strengthens every aspect of community life. Water security supports hygiene and health. Infrastructure creates economic opportunity. Local enterprise helps sustain these systems over time.
Water security doesn’t necessarily depend on a single source. Even where wells, boreholes, streams, or other sources are available, rainwater catchment provides additional storage and another source of water when existing supplies are limited, interrupted, or difficult to access. Friendly Water’s 25,000-liter Rainwater Catchment Tanks help communities strengthen the reliability and resilience of their overall water supply.
Friendly Water works with Community-Based Organizations in Kenya to develop integrated, locally operated solutions rather than isolated projects. Our work centers on three practical technologies – Rainwater Catchment Tanks (RCTs), Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSBs), and locally produced KEBS-certified hygiene products. Together, they strengthen essential community services while creating local employment and economic opportunity.
Practical Solutions. Lasting Impact.
Friendly Water works with communities to develop practical, locally managed technologies that strengthen water security, improve health, create economic opportunity, and build long-term resilience.

Rainwater Catchment Tanks
25,000-liter RCTs provide additional water storage and help communities maintain reliable access when other sources are limited or interrupted. Built with locally produced ISSBs, they strengthen water security while supporting local skills and employment.

Interlocking Stabilized
Soil Blocks
ISSBs are locally produced from compressed soil and a small amount of cement and water, creating strong, durable building blocks with less mortar than conventional masonry. They are used to construct RCTs and other community infrastructure while creating local employment and building practical construction skills.

Locally Produced
Hygiene Products
KEBS-certified hygiene products are produced and sold locally, improving access to soap and other essential products while generating revenue and employment. Local production strengthens hygiene, supports community-based organizations, and helps sustain their work over time.
